We're seeking a visionary Quantum Computing Research Scientist to develop next-generation algorithms and architectures that will redefine computational boundaries. In this role, you'll collaborate with Nobel laureates and industry pioneers in our state-of-the-art Austin facility, leveraging cutting-edge hardware to solve previously unsolvable problems in cryptography, materials science, and artificial intelligence.
Our team operates at the intersection of theoretical physics and practical engineering, with access to D-Wave and IBM quantum systems. You'll have the autonomy to lead research initiatives while benefiting from our $50M annual R&D budget and partnerships with MIT and Stanford.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement novel quantum algorithms for optimization and machine learning applications
- Lead experimental validation of quantum advantage in real-world scenarios
- Develop error mitigation techniques for NISQ-era quantum processors
- Collaborate with hardware teams to co-design quantum architectures
- Publish breakthrough research in top-tier journals (Nature, Science, etc.)
- Secure research grants and patents for quantum innovations
- Mentor junior researchers in quantum computing fundamentals
Qualifications
- PhD in Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
- 3+ years of hands-on quantum algorithm development experience
- Expertise in quantum programming languages (Qiskit, Cirq, Q#)
- Strong publication record in quantum information science
- Deep understanding of quantum error correction and fault tolerance
- Experience with quantum hardware platforms (IBM, Rigetti, IonQ)
- Proven ability to translate theoretical concepts into experimental results
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
